Giggly Kids are proud to be Reading Ambassadors for The National Year of Reading 2012! Here is a little bit of information from the Love2read website about what it’s all about;

The National Year of Reading 2012 is about children learning to read and keen readers finding new sources of inspiration. It’s about supporting reading initiatives while respecting the oral tradition of storytelling. It’s about helping people discover and rediscover the magic of books. And most of all, it’s about Australians becoming a nation of readers.

Nearly half our population can’t read with any fluency.  Here are three goals which will help us turn Australia into a nation of readers and encourage a reading culture in every home:

  • For all Australians to understand the benefits of reading as a life skill and a catalyst for well-being;
  • To promote a reading culture in every home; and
  • To establish an aspirational goal for families, of parents and caregivers sharing books with their children every day.

Next year will see a whole heap of amazing, fun, reading activities taking place around Australia and online, so people of all ages, from different backgrounds, can discover and rediscover the joy of reading.

You can find information about all the Reading Ambassadors here: http://www.love2read.org.au/ambassadors.cfm

Happy Reading everyone!

We would like to say a very special thank you to our friend Joshua who took our CD “Ready, Set, Giggle!” all the way to Seattle in the US. Here’s a picture of him in front of the Seattle Music Experience Project. Thanks for sending that in Joshua and Michelle!

We were so excited to perform the first show of “Edward the Emu and Edwina the Emu” in Goolwa on March the 21st. Working with the live orchestra was amazing and the shows were well received by all. Stay tuned for some pictures very soon!

The Gig Guide has recently been updated so have a look to see where you can catch a Giggly Kids performance next.

Giggly Kids, Kate Jarvis and David Bailiht are musical entertainers and songwriters for Children. “ For both of us, reading has and will always be a source of joy and inspiration. Reading a good book can take you to wonderful, imaginative and astonishing places. Reading and loving books as young children set a solid foundation of creativity for us as songwriters. To learn, explore, imagine and create as you read is such a delight and an important learning tool for children. We’re thrilled to promote reading to young people and proud to be ambassadors for The National Year of Reading.”

2012, More fun than you can fit into your back-pack!

6 Jan

Hello Everybody!

We hope you’ve all enjoyed yourselves over the silly season. We certainly have kept busy with shows and concerts all about the place; we even got to meet Santa at the Mitcham Library!

Giggly Kids meet Santa!!

We also met some incredible people, thanks to all the wonderful library staff who made us feel so welcome as we performed here, there and everywhere.

It’s been a busy couple of months and Kate and Dave have been rehearsing a new show with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. “Edward the Emu” and “Edwina the Emu” will premier in Goolwa in March.

Just Add Water is the name for the year-long Regional Centre of Culture program in the picturesque coastal town of Goolwa, featuring the Emu’s in collaboration with Giggly Kids. Be sure to look up the program as there will be amazing art and productions taking place throughout 2012.

Dave is currently working on the Melbourne Shakespeare Company’s production of “Wind in the Willows”. This year is the special 25th year anniversary of the show in the picturesque Botanic Gardens. If you’re in Victoria for January it is must see family classic. Bring a big picnic! But watch out for cheeky Head Chief Rabbit; he might just sample your dinner!

When “Wind in the Willows” wraps up at the end of January, Kate and Dave have booked in a couple of weeks to start work on a new Giggly Kids ALBUM! We look forward to developing new songs and ideas which we hope to share with you later in the year.

If you haven’t already done so, please join our mailing list. It’s a great way to get updates every now and again and to find out when we’ll be playing near you.

As always, keep giggling!
